International standards of human rights - the path to the rule of law
December 12, 2013 in the methodical study of the Legal Department of the Institute of Criminal Law and Procedure organized a thematic exhibition on the theme: "International standards of human rights - the path to the rule of law", which was dedicated to the 65-th anniversary of the UN General Assembly's Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
During the event students attention was drawn to the fact that December 10, 1948 the UN General Assembly adopted the first international legal document that proclaimed the fundamental rights and freedoms - the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It became the basis of global enforcement of human rights and had a decisive influence on the formation of the national legislation. The Declaration has been prepared by the United Nations Special Commission established February 16, 1946, which was led by the widow of U.S. President Roosevelt - Eleanorа. The group included representatives of several countries. Ukraine was represented by Professor Vladimir M. Koretsky , who soon after the Declaration was headed by the newly created sector of law, and then - Institute of State and Law of the Ukrainian SSR. Enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights provisions were developed in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (1966), as well as a number of other international instruments. At present, international law adequately identified generally accepted standards of legal status. They somehow reflected in modern constitutions. Now there are more than 200 constitutional states and nearly 300 constitutions or other fundamental laws of subjects of federation. The current Constitution of Ukraine was adopted on June 28, 1996. It was amended according to the Law № 2222-IV of December 8, 2004 the constitution has also ARC, which entered into force on December 12, 1999. Students at the exhibition acquainted with scientific work and modifications leading national researchers and teaching staff of the department, concerning this problem. The above helped to deepen students knowledge about the historical aspects of the adoption and implementation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
