On 11 April 2024, Yuliya Beluga, senior lecturer of the Department of Civil Law and Trial, together with the Human Rights Information and Education Centre of the Faculty of Law held a lecture on theme: “Protection of Children’s Rights in the Conflict Zone: Challenges and Opportunities” for the high school pupils of the Economic and Law Lyceum of Desnyanskyi District of Kyiv.
During the meeting with the pupils, the problems faced by minors and underage persons in the context of war and conflict were discussed, as well as the legal aspects of protecting the rights of children affected by hostilities in Ukraine.
“Russian aggression in Ukraine has led to serious violations of the rights and plight of Ukrainian children and young people. This aggression has caused the significant human rights violations and worsened the situation with security, education, access to healthcare, social adaptation and psychological well-being of Ukrainian youth. Therefore, it is more important than ever to conduct the human rights education activities and explain to the citizens of our country their rights and legal remedies in case of their violation”, − said Yuliya Beluga in her speech.
The high school pupils took an active part in the discussion of this theme and came to the conclusion that every citizen, regardless of age and gender, could become an active agent of change in the world, showing empathy and compassion for those in need, joining actions to improve conditions for all those in need.
At the end of the meeting, the pupils were introduced to the benefits of studying at the Faculty of Law of NAU and all those present received information booklets detailing the conditions of admission to this educational structural unit of the National Aviation University.
