The university life of students is filled not only with studies, but also with activities aimed at developing their careers. On 14 March 2024, as part of the international private law course, the students of the PR-404B group, speciality 081 “Law”, met with Maxym Borysov, a lawyer with 12 years of experience.
The invited guest proposed to discuss with the students the theme “Trends in the field of law and legal services: what should young professionals know?”, in which he shared his experience of practical work in the field of jurisprudence, described the main problems and current challenges faced in his professional activities, and stressed the importance of students acquiring theoretical knowledge during their studies at the university.
In his speech, Maxym Borysov provided practical examples, which helped students to gain knowledge that will be useful in their future practice.
“In private international law, the parties to contracts enjoy the principle of autonomy of the will of private international law as to the law to govern the contract. In particular, ship chartering contracts are an example of contracts where different laws apply to different parts of the contract. For example, the distribution of damages for a general casualty will be governed by the York-Antwerp Rules of the relevant edition, which are a maritime custom, while other provisions of the contract may be subject to English law”, − noted the lawyer.
In the result of the meeting, the students received important insights from a legal professional who, by his own example, inspired them to further develop their careers.
