On November 20, 2019, the Department of Theory and History of State and Law of the Faculty of Law held a roundtable on the Day of Dignity and Freedom. This holiday is celebrated in accordance with the decree of the President of Ukraine “On Dignity and Freedom Day” of November 13, 2014 “with the aim of affirming in Ukraine the ideals of freedom and democracy, preserving and communicating to present and future generations objective information about fateful events in Ukraine at the beginning of XXI century, as well as paying tribute to the patriotism and courage of citizens who, in the fall of 2004 and November 2013 - February 2014, stood up for the democratic values, rights and freedoms of man and citizen, the national interests of our country and its European choice" and is celebrated annually in this country on 21 November. The event was attended by academic staff and students of the first year of the Faculty of Law. Participants of the roundtable mentioned that it was on November 21, 2013 that Ukrainian citizens came to the main square of the country in protest against the decision of the government to stop the course of Ukraine for European integration, and on the night of November 30, security forces brutally dispersed students on the Maidan. The three-month standoff between the authorities and the activists has led to numerous human casualties - the Heavenly Hundred - just so called the protesters who gave their lives for a better future for Ukraine. The attendees paid a minute's silence to all who gave their lives for Ukraine's independence by lighting the sorrow candle. Remember, “History of grief teaches us not to be forgotten. For where memory is not silent, there will be a happy future!” |
